History

Once upon a time I sat in a downtown office wondering if there was a business that was sustainable, equitable towards its employees and produced a high quality service. My years in hospitality while in college merged with my past-life as an accountant combining passion and process— hence the Purple Fig was born!

The emphasis on an affordable high-quality service, sustainability and the equitable distribution of profit distinguishes The Purple Fig from any other household management business in Austin. Try us and you’ll see why!

Purple Fig – Austin’s Green Cleaning Company with a Heart

“Purple Fig is a natural cleaning service in the greater Austin area — all the clean with none of the chemicals,” said owner Amanda May. “We make and use only green cleaning products, which we ship nationwide. We provide free recipes for everything we sell, and we’ll teach anyone how to make what we sell. Our goal is to create healthy, clean homes.”

Austin Woman Magazine: Creating Healthy Spaces

“My husband and I had been working on changing to a greener lifestyle when I met Amanda May at the Sunset Valley Farmer’s Market. She mentioned that The Purple Fig was putting on a natural cleaning seminar and I thought that learning how to make my own products instead of purchasing green cleaners seemed ideal.” said Helen Novielli. “ I love the natural cleaners. I don’t miss the harsh chemical smells at all!”
In November of 2007, May quit her job as a public accountant and started The Purple Fig Cleaning Company. May already had the idea of an all-natural, non-toxic cleaning company in her head when she was refused unpaid leave during a slow work period. “I had been going around to people at parties and trying to convince someone to start an all natural cleaning company. ‘Oh this would be such a great idea; this would be a really cool business.’ But no one did it, of course. So when my firm denied my vacation, I decided that I was going to do my own thing. And so I ended up starting this business that I’d been telling other people to do., “ said May with a smile. “

Craft Magazine: A Party Clean Enough for Gaia

Parties begin and end with cleaning. Many event producers agree that guests keep a clean space clean and make a messy space dirty because they follow the intention they feel in the room when they arrive.
But I recently learned from Amanda May, owner of The Purple Fig Cleaning Company, that some parties begin, end, and are entirely about cleaning. The Purple Fig, located in Austin, Texas, offers chemical-free cleaning services, a line of natural cleaning products, and DIY parties that educate, empower and inspire.
May is anxious to point out that simple ingredients such as vinegar and baking soda will solve most household cleaning needs. With the addition of essential oils such as tea tree, anyone can make a plethora of products that are safe for people and the planet.
